The mission of Bra Couture KC is to provide life-empowering services to uninsured and underinsured individuals in the greater Kansas City area who have been touched by all cancers.

Our primary event uniquely celebrates breast cancer survivors to raise funds for Kansas City area organizations who are aligned with our mission. Bra Couture KC’s annual event is an extraordinary, and a fun, auction event showcasing eclectic work-of-art bras modeled by breast cancer survivors to celebrate their triumph over cancer.

A tribute to survivors’ fighting spirit, Bra Couture KC benefits The University of Kansas Cancer Center programs and services, such as The Patient-in-Need Fund at Missys’ Boutique, which is an accredited appearance center at The University of Kansas Cancer Center’s Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Care Center. Bra Couture KC has also created a new appearance center in the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Pavilion at Truman Medical Center.

These appearance centers provide high-quality appearance items such as wigs, prosthetics, and other pre and post-op surgical supplies, professionally fitted to each patient by on-site certified technicians.

In 2015 BCKC also provided funding for uninsured to North Kansas City Hospital, Shawnee Mission Hospital, Cancer Action and funds to support breast cancer screening parties with Surviving the Odds. The fund ensures access for services to eligible uninsured and underinsured individuals.

The 2016 Event will be held on Friday, April 1st at the Signature Flight Support (TWA Museum – Downtown Airport).

6:15 – 7:45pm | VIP experience – Tickets: $250
7:00 – 11:00 pm | General Admission Runway Show and Auction – Tickets: $125

These one-of-a-kind Art Bras will be designed and created by family & friends of survivors, local artists, celebrities and volunteers.

Approximately 100 work-of-art bras will be auctioned to benefit eligible uninsured/underinsured cancer patients throughout the greater Kansas City area. These one-of-a-kind art bras will be designed and created by family and friends of survivors, local artists, celebrities and volunteers.

The “Top 20″ bras are modeled and auctioned off during a live fashion show. The other pieces of art and items will be intermingled for the silent and live auctions.

Fashion show models are breast cancer survivors and patients; their runway costumes will coordinate to the theme of the art bra they model. In addition, over 40 pieces of amazing art objects will be featured in the silent auction.

BCKC has an “auction-off” between KU, MU and K-State with all mascots present; last year MU won the bidding contest so the challenge is on for KU and K-State for 2016’s event.

Bra Couture KC is proud to announce our expansion of services throughout Kansas City

In just five years Bra Couture KC has raised over $750,000 for Kansas City’s uninsured/underinsured cancer community.

As well as serving over 2,000 uninsured cancer patients at The University of Kansas Cancer Center we have:

  • Donated $35,000 to purchase a lymphedema measuring machine at KU Cancer Center
  • Donated $20,000 to close the gap for cancer medications for uninsured cancer patients and $5,000 for transportation for patients to receive critical treatment at the KU Cancer Center
  • Donated $30,000 to create a new Lymphedema Services practice at the KU Cancer Center under the direction of Jamie Wagner M.D., recently hired from MD Anderson Cancer Center
  • Donated $50,000 from 2015 funds to support on-going services at the KU Cancer Center

Bra Couture KC donated over $70,000 to open and support our own appearance center in the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Center at Truman Medical Center.

With our support, cancer patients at TMC will have high-quality appearance items such as wigs, prosthetics, and other pre and post-op surgical supplies, professionally fitted to each patient by on-site certified technicians from within the nurse navigator group at TMC. Bra Couture KC will fund the certification cost for each technician, as well as provide lymphedema garments to patients in need.

Bra Couture KC is a co-founder of the Wyandotte County Task Force to address the disparity issue there where a high percentage of women of color are diagnosed in late-stage cancers. Working with Surviving the Odds, BCKC holds six screening parties each year reaching into the underserved communities to take women to imaging centers for screening and early detection. We screened over 120 women in 2015 alone and have screened 200 women to-date fast tracking four women with abnormalities for care.

As mentioned above, in 2015 we also donated $2,500 to Shawnee Mission Medical Center to create a fund for uninsured/underinsured there and donated $5,000 to Cancer Action.

As a result of our success to date, BCKC has received requests from Cancer Action and other Kansas City area hospitals for increased funding to support additional appearance centers that will provide key support items within our underserviced cancer community.

Join us for 2016; we have a chance to cross over 1M total dollars raised to care for Kansas City’s own.
